Merry Christmas-in a fort!!

We kicked off our designated Christmas eve night as an apartment with creating costumes as Lord of The Rings characters.  The reason?  We had tickets to the 12:05 showing of The Hobbit!
After the wonderful show (and meeting Gandalf) we came back and got ready for bed, still raving about our love of the movie.  Our blankets were all moved into the living room as well as all our pillows and all was spread over the floor.  The five of us slept in our Christmas fort made out of multi-colored sheets and a shower curtain and dollar-store ribbon hung crisscross across the ceiling.  And a wonderful night it was.  When we awoke in the late morning, waiting for us were the gifts we had all wrapped frantically the night (morning?) before.  And the apple cider was poured and presents opened and joy filled the house!  Though finals were still on our minds, our Bon-Bon dressed up as Batman to complete the morning, inspired by her brand new knee-high socks that each had their own cape.
After our celebration we parted ways until the new year, but are looking forward to the adventures that await our next semester of college together.

The Boy Contract

We, as roommates, like each other a lot and thus like to spend crazy amounts of time together.  Therefore, there have been several conversations in which we have expressed something like, "Guys, I'm so glad we're all single.  That means we can hang out more."  As this is the pervading sentiment in the apartment it has produced a list for when one of us inevitably begins dating someone, poor girl.

I. If a girl holds hands with a boy, she owes each of the girls in the apartment their own bag of M&M's. 

II. If a girl kisses a boy, she owes each girl in the apartment ice cream (including the expensive lactose free stuff) in payment for her transgression.

III. If a girl makes out with a boy, she owes each girl in the apartment her own whole pizza (including gluten free).  

IV. If a girl gets engaged while living in our apartment, she owes the apartment a group trip to Salt Lake, preferably overnight. 

V. If a girl kisses a boy 200 times, she owes the apartment a reunion trip/epic sleepover with ice cream and pizza and a blanket fort with Christmas lights and Nutella.  Because that's not random....

I am the morning and the evening star.  If I say day is night, thus it shall be written!

Meet the Hydra

As soon as I got home from my whirlwind adventure in the far north...the north part of Utah Valley, that is, we decided to clean up the front rooms of The Friendly Mushroom.  I took the picture you see in this post.  From thence came my inspiration to write, attempting to explain just why every home needs a hydra.

Mellie is an origami-ist extraordinaire, so we have a lot of origami-type decorations around The Friendly Mushroom.  Of these, our favorites have to be the unicorns and our friendly hydra. I feel that the unicorns are rather self-explanatory (have you met us?), so  on to our beloved hydra whom we call "Hydra" for short.

Hydra normally sits on our bookshelf in the front room, guarding our beloved Godric Gryffindor chocolate frog card that is highly coveted among those who live in the greater complex area.  Don't ask as the story involves unladylike running, and tackling a boy to the ground for the card's return.  We got it back, but I digress. Hydra also protects us from uncleanliness, the dirty dishes monster, and bad dates.  Seriously.

Most importantly, Hydra is one of the influences that makes five crazy girls go from five people randomly living together to sisters. Hydra is a symbol for the things that bond us together.  Mythology, The BBC, Mistborn, Avatar, Percy Jackson, creeping out our windows as often as possible...the list could go on for ages, but you get the idea.  Not only is Hydra a real hydra who protects us from undesirable things with his awesome many-headed skills, but he also represents the idea that even though we're not related by blood, something as small as a hydra can unite us in love and sisterhood.  So you see, every home really does need a hydra.  :)

Winter Wonderland

I never thought I would love snow this much; the cool, crisp air, the flurry of snowflakes near my face, the soft white blanket above my head. It's so beautiful. Usually I cry when the ice crystals fall. BUT...

The image gives me chills. :D I feel like if a rainbow Unicorn or Batman were incorporated into this picture, it would be most perfect. ^___^ *nod nod* This is the first snow since October and it is certainly more beautiful! I feel the urge to 'slurp hot cocoa by the window' coming on. It's sad to think that when this stops, the frothy white will melt away or become an ominous, gooey black by the road. And then nostalgia ensues.

Speaking of nostalgia, as a result of the longing to be with our old friends from Avatar, we stayed up Thursday night and watched an episode from Book Two: Earth (we as in Bon, Mel and I). This particular episode introduced an adorable creature which Sokka named 'Foofoocuddlypoops'. The relationship between the two is quite moving and makes one flounder with tingly warm-fuzzy feelings... at least until Foofoocuddlypoops' mother shows up. Suddenly those feelings dissipate because new feelings of immanent doom and death take over. She has quite a temper. ;)

MOVING ON! Today was grand. Pan-Pan left us last night for the weekend, but I guess there's not much I can complain about seeing as I left this afternoon. X) Li-Li (being her wonderful, awesome self) took off to participate in a service activity leaving Bon-Bon, Mellie and I to master the snow!

Where am I? Right there. No, there. See? No, I'm the invisible one right there. o_O

And we built a most beautiful fort guarded by a vicious, and yet benevolent, rooster goat. This was followed by the inevitable: cocoa party with pumpkin cookies! (We were accompanied the entire time by two wonderful guys as well). I fear our awesomeness has struck once again, and we are determined on spreading it forth throughout the world. Beware. beware. beware.....

Happy Halloween!

Greetings Earth,
This blog has been launched and is ready to document the days and adventures in the lives of us, the roomies of the best apartment ever.  We love each other, we love college, and we love our lives!

On to the real meat of the day:  Halloween
What a great holiday!  What happens when everyone is allowed to wear costumes around and not be a wierdo?  Everyone is so much happier!  And everyone can talk to anyone they don't know, just because they are wearing a cool costume.  The freedom from social norms is so entertaining!
We as friends thoroughly enjoyed ourselves by dressing up.  Every single one of us.  I'm proud of us!
We woke up early so we could all get dressed together and do our hair.  Of course, we were late to class.  But that's okay, because a few of us decided that there were such awesome costumes being worn by others that we would like to see them.  ALL of them.  Hence people-watching ensued.  And picture taking.  But don't worry, we weren't stalking anyone or taking random pictures of passer-bys.  We ran up to those who were wearing costumes of TV shows we enjoy to watch, people we know, and people with costumes related to our own and asked to have our picture taken with them.
Yes, we are so fantastic.
Besides that our Halloween night activities took us to a recycled maze.
And it was haunted!
A group of six girls dressed as princesses and other cute, pretty little things going through a haunted maze in the dark...  Yup, we were screaming the whole time.  But a lot of it was just to relieve tension and we were even laughing the whole time too.

Those creepy haunters in the maze loved us.  They had so much fun!  Haha!  They even followed us out into the parking lot in character to scare us some more!

This basically describes each of our emotions while inside the maze.  Human Shield!!

So Halloween was a great success on our part.
We hope all of your Halloween celebrations were just as fun, though in a less nerdy college girl way!
